DALLAS – (BUSINESSWIRE) — Douglas A. Harrison, a veteran family lawyer known for his expert handling of complex property claims in divorce, has joined Connatser Family Law.
Doug began his career at the international law firm Gardere Wynne Sewell more than 40 years ago and soon became the firm’s “go-to” family lawyer, often dealing with corporate and other business assets. He has extensive experience with the forensic identification, valuation and division of community property and liabilities, and the identification and tracing of separate property.
Although complex divorce litigation is his strong suit, Doug has extensive training and experience with the advanced settlement techniques involved in collaborative law.
“Collaborative law can be a most productive way to divide assets,” Doug says. “We follow the method that’s most likely to lead to success, consistent with the client’s wishes.”
In addition, Doug helps clients all across Texas with the following:
- Negotiation, drafting and enforcement of premarital and postmarital agreements and cohabitation agreements.
- Adoptions and modification actions relating to children, such as support, custody and possession.
- Issues related to the division of business property.
Handling divorces for many successful businesspeople has helped him develop effective strategies for dividing employee benefits, including non-qualified stock options, stock appreciation rights, and both qualified and non-qualified retirement and pension plans. Doug can effectively handle all issues that arise in complicated divorces, such as tax, real estate, corporate, immigration, intangible property rights and employee benefit issues.
Aubrey Connatser, Managing Member of Connatser Family Law, considers Doug a major addition to her team. “Having worked with and against him during my career, I know the quality of his advocacy, ethics and example as a person and a lawyer. In divorce, Doug is a master of complex business and property matters.”
Doug has taught family law at SMU Dedman School of Law, where he earned his law degree in 1974, and has served as a mentor to many of the area’s top young family lawyers.
He has also been recognized for excellence in the legal profession by The Best Lawyers in America (Woodward/White, 2007-2016); Texas Super Lawyers (Thomson Reuters, 2004-2016); and Martindale-Hubbell, AV Preeminent 5.0 out of 5 Peer Review Rated.

Connatser Family Law is Planned for Greatness
Aubrey Connatser has established Connatser Family Law as the next in a line of great Texas divorce and family law firms.
For Aubrey, it was time to blaze her own trail in Texas family law when she started the firm in the fall of 2013. She is known throughout the state for her engaging personality and the ability to work with opposing counsel, judges and juries to benefit her clients.
Over the past several years, Aubrey has matured into an emerging force in Texas divorce and family law. Many of the area’s wealthiest and most famous people depend on her for family law advice.
Aubrey understands the mental health focus in Texas divorce as well as the need to keep businesses healthy and retain large assets. And as a mother of young children, she is able to talk to both men and women about the roles they wish to play in the workplace and in the marriage.
New Firm Continues Her Pursuit of Excellence
Aubrey vows to provide Texas residents with the same outstanding representation she has given them over more than a decade. “What you get at Aubrey M. Connatser, PLLC, is veteran representation with a keen understanding of the system and what is possible,” she says. “Our quality control is off the chart.” Aubrey gathered around her two very bright young attorneys who practice with the same commitment. And now she has the steady hand of Mike DeBruin, known in the legal profession for his hard work, attention to detail and ethical approach.
Christine Powers Leatherberry has more than six years of experience as a Dallas litigator in both civil trial law and family law. Abby Gregory is a Princeton graduate who comes to Connatser family law firm from one of Dallas’ other top family law firms.
She is a Much-Honored Family Lawyer
Aubrey has been honored as one of Texas’ Best Lawyers (Woodward/White) the past three years. She is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and is one of D Magazine’s Best Lawyers in Dallas (2011). Texas lawyers under age 40 usually are limited to the Rising Stars list of younger attorneys, but Aubrey first made the list of Texas Super Lawyers at age 28 (Thomson Reuters 2004). She has made the Super Lawyers list, the top 5% of Texas attorneys, again from 2009 to 2011 and in 2013.
She earned her bachelor’s degree with high honors in psychology from The University of Texas at Austin in 1998 and her Juris Doctor with honors from The University of Texas School of Law in 2001. While an undergraduate, she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Liberal Arts Honors Program and was an Endowed Presidential Scholar.
Aubrey was also the youngest shareholder in the history of the southwest’s largest family law firm, and she has developed into a seasoned family law practitioner handling every facet of family practice.
