Sara Barnett has been working in the field of intimate partner violence her entire legal career. Graduating law school in 2013 from the University of Oklahoma, Ms. Barnett began her career in the district attorney’s office in Garfield County Oklahoma. There she prosecuted felony and misdemeanor domestic violence crimes. Ms. Barnett also headed the county’s coordinated community response team, working with advocates and law enforcement to develop policies to strengthen access to resources for victims, police response and successful prosecution. In 2016, Ms. Barnett was the first on-site attorney hired by Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support to provide trauma-informed, quality civil representation to their clients in family law matters in Dallas County. In that time, Ms. Barnett has developed the program’s policies and procedures and grew the program’s reach with the addition of two additional attorneys and support staff. In addition, Ms. Barnett regularly presents in the community on the intersection of family law, criminal law and domestic violence.
Ms. Barnett has moved into private practice with Connatser Family Law, where she plans to continue to advocate for victims of violence.
