Sara Barnett has been working to help families impacted by intimate partner violence her entire legal career. A proud Sooner, she graduated law school from the University of Oklahoma. During law school, she practiced as a licensed intern in Child Abuse & Neglect Clinic, working for the Public Defender’s Office representing and advocating for children involved in the child welfare system. After law school, she worked as an Assistant District Attorney, where she prosecuted felony and misdemeanor domestic violence crimes.
Additionally, she headed the county’s coordinated community response team, working with advocates and law enforcement to develop policies to strengthen victim’s access to resources and improve police response to domestic violence calls to allow for successful prosecution, accountability of offenders and justice for survivors.
In 2016, she was hired as the first on-site attorney with Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support to provide trauma-informed, quality civil representation to clients in family law matters. Managing a team of attorneys and staff, Sara’s program was awarded the D CEO Magazine– Non-Profit Corporate Citizenship Award for Nonprofit Team of the Year in 2018. In addition, she regularly presents in the community on the intersection of family law, criminal law and domestic violence.
As the most recent addition to Connatser Family Law, she plans to continue her work advocating for families and children.
Sara lives in Dallas with her husband and poodle, Sully.
